Welcome to Moab Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation

Here’s what others are saying:

Stephanie was able to easily step in and strategically manage the healing process after my finger surgery. She went well beyond the call of duty by removing stitch fragments and creating a new improved splint. Stephanie showed greater professional care than any physical therapist I’ve ever had ( I have had many with all my physical injuries)She is very skilled and I would even say gifted. It was a real blessing to find her and I am thankful for the success we achieved in my healing process. Stephanie is not a certified hand therapy specialist but proved to be better than several I have known. I feel confident and comfortable recommending Stephanie to anyone needing physical therapy.

Stephanie Hayes is a wonderful Physical therapist with a residency in hand therapy. She evaluated my hand when I lost the extension of my thumb and she assisted me in obtaining an appointment for hand surgery at the hospital of my choosing. Coincidentally, where she had training. Of course I saw Stephanie for hand therapy after my surgery and Stephanie is most excellent in her care. She is kind, caring, reassuring and extremely good in explaining the exercises and why they rehabilitate the muscles and flexibility of the hand. She advanced my exercises and my hand progressed and there was never any pain. Just a little discomfort only when I did exercises. I have a pain-free completely functional hand with normal strength! My handwriting is completely normal. I recommend Stephanie to anyone who is in need of hand therapy.

After moving last December both my shoulders became painful. Moving my arms was painful. Carrying any weight was painful. I had sessions with Rhonda, Stephanie, and Chloe. All of them paid attention to what I had to say. They designed a set of exercises and stretches that reduced my pain within a few weeks. My sessions were adjusted as I improved with new stretches and exercises that pushed my healing further along. They also helped with some exercises to improve my posture that should help prevent future injury. When I left I had a set of exercises to continue using along with instructions about using them and not over using them. Visiting Moab Physical Therapy was always a warm and soothing experience. I miss going in for therapy.

I wanted you to know that Chloe Hollis had referred me to Moab Physical Therapy.
Thank you for providing such fine PT services.

December 2021

I came to Moab PT because there were a couple of times after a hike and the subsequent car ride that I could barely get out of the car and walk to my house, it was so painful. Getting up after sitting awhile was also a very negative experience. After a couple of months of PT with Rhonda, Chloe, and Stephanie, I feel like a normal person, and I even started jogging, something I would’ve been crazy to do a few weeks ago. The dry needling is what helped me turn the corner, I think, as well as the strengthening exercises. Thank you!

September 2021

I just want to say how wonderful my treatment has been. In the spring and summer of 2021 I have had treatment from both Chloe and Stephanie. My treatments with them saved me from having surgery. I believe that MPTR went above and beyond my expectations.

Moab PT&R did a fantastic job without restoration of range of motion and pain reduction in my shoulder. I am able to comfortably work again. THANKS to Chloe and all the professionals there!

Hi Chloe and Rhonda,
I want to let you know how I’m doing. Thank you Rhonda for having Colette call today.
I am continuing to do most of the exercises I’ve been given, including the kneeling foot and ankle mobilization exercise. Chloe, I am able to do both exercises without pain using my half soft foam roller. This exercise has helped me be able to work outside in the yard and garden! I am able to do Child’s Pose without any assistance, and today I sat cross-legged putting my left foot on a wheat berry pillow for 5 minutes! Two of my goals met – Yay!!

Hi Rhonda and Chloe,
I am happy to report that the combined effect of electric-shock therapy and water-boarding has had a salubrious effect on Thumbus! I am going to keep up the twice daily hot and cold soak and will let you know how it all progresses. Have a wonderful Christmas and thank you for caring about my thumb!

December 2020

After a bad mountain bike crash that led to my second shoulder surgery Moab PT and Rehab was a huge help in getting me back on the trails. I could barely lift my arm after breaking my humerus and arm; dislocating my shoulder. I also sustained a lot of nerve damage to my upper arm. I worked with Chloe and Rhonda for almost five months after my injury. I went from barely moving my arm and 5 months in a sling to normal day to day activities and now I’m slowly getting back on the trails. Overall the process wasn’t easy, and VERY slow at first. Even if I was having a hard time making progress Chloe was so encouraging and positive. It really helped me keep a good attitude and stay focused on my recovery! Now, I’ve never been happier to be able to do silly things like put my hair in a ponytail or things I once avoided like side planks!

March 2020

I have no doubt that my time with Moab PT helped. It turns out that I have Osteoarthritis in my neck and back and they both will hurt sometimes. Most days I don’t use anything for pain. I’m still able to do most things, it just takes longer. About once a month I try to go somewhere and stay at least one night, currently I’m spending some time near Woodenshoe and Peavine Canyons. I’ll likely head down there again next week. I’ve also spent some time exploring around East Canyon in the Bookcliffs but started heading South when I was able to camp there. I’m still doing exercises from 2 years ago, I just added to everything and now spend about 1.5 hours every morning doing them. Thanks.

First thought: “Can’t hurt. Give it a try. See what happens.” After one session: Amazement. Thought maybe it was my imagination. Oh my! Kept getting better after each session. Now: Feel stronger. More self-assured. Not afraid of falling. Much steadier at 83 years of age. Highly recommend. If therapy helped me so much, imagine what it can do for you and all ages. Thank you. So grateful.

March 2020

My “pain in the neck” is nearly gone! Two months ago my neck hurt so badly that I had trouble sleeping and functioning. The pain started radiating down my back, so I knew it was time to get it fixed. Throughout my long life, I have found physical therapy so much more effective than drugs. Rhonda and student Jess were brilliant. They not only gave me effective stretches and exercises to do at home, but also explained how and why each worked. Rhonda also focused on long term posture and muscle use changes that will help prevent the problem from re-occurring. Now not only is the pain mostly gone, but my range of motion has improved dramatically. The entire staff at Moab PT and Rehab are professional, friendly and kind. Thank you all!

December 2019

No, Moab Physical Therapy didn’t sprinkle pixie dust on me to make me instantly better. But they gave me tools. They assessed my hip problem/pain. They came up with a plan of action. However, it took more than one or two weeks. I learned to identify actions that I did daily that caused the problem/pain. I learned methods to work around the things I did that caused pain. I learned exercises to reset the hip. I learned other exercises to strengthen everything that attaches to that pesky hip. I learned to tell when I am exacerbating the problem and quickly stop. Woohoo! They taught me that if I curtail the cause (see the above line) I can curtail the pain. And if I continue with the exercise program and strengthen all those hip-related muscles, there is very little I can’t do. I can remain relatively pain free and be able to work and play in comfort. They didn’t sprinkle pixie dust but gave me tools. The tools work. I just must continue to use them. At 73 years old, I will continue to use them because I REALLY like to work and play in comfort! Thanks Rhonda, Chloe, and Stephanie and staff for not just “fixing a problem” but teaching me the ways to keep it as “fixed” as possible!

July 2019

Dear Rhonda and Chloe @ Moab Physical Therapy,

Today is day five since my last physical therapy session. I am going to miss Rhonda and Chloe. Two weeks  after a total knee replacement I started PT. The surgeon said total recovery could take up to nine months or more. My hopes were not very high. After two weeks of PT I knew the surgery was going to be a success. After four weeks of PT my knee functioned better than it had in two or three years. (I probably delayed surgery far longer than I should have.) Most of my sessions were with Chloe. She was patient, kind, and explained the exercises thoroughly including the purpose and expected results. Rhonda and a student assessed my gait on a short walk outside. I had a problem that likely resulted from long term arthritis in my knee. I was instructed to use several exercises and stretches. Weeks later I could feel improvement. Each week I could feel more and more improvement. Now I am working on a faster walking pace and more endurance. I am going to miss my sessions at Moab Physical Therapy.

The on again, off again, pain in my left shoulders finally grew persistent enough I took my doctors advice and came to see Rhonda and crew. Jess (student) got into the swing of things and taught me simple DIY exercises to strengthen all those connection in the shoulder to keep it pain free. This was accomplished in a few short weeks. I appreciated being shown clear pictures of the area on which we worked. Now I can sleep on my left side with minimal pain. Thanks Jess and Rhonda!

October 2019

I injured my bicep tendon throwing a disc golf disc. I only noticed a twinge of pain in certain positions, like putting on a shirt or reaching back for my bed covers or stirring food to make a dish. Well, all those twinges are all but gone now after just seven visits and reasonable home exercises. Chloe explained the exercises and now they helped resolve the issue. She also explained the use of ultrasound to help the cells do a more effective job of bringing blood to the tendon and helping the tendon to heal more quickly.

Great staff – I always felt welcomed and cared about. I got great results and will continue home exercises for awhile until I’m fully free of those twinges. I aim to get back on the sic golf course soon.

June 2019

I wanted to let you know how happy and blessed I was to have been given a prescription from my doctor to see you guys after I broke my wrist recently. The service and care given was very personal and caring. I don’t think I would have received such care anywhere else in town!

I would highly recommend anyone in need of PT to check you out! The outcome will be excellent! I would add though, doing the exercises at home were a big part of the quick recovery I experienced! We have to do our part also! One would not go wrong allowing you to help get one set up with a program!

I suggest the person who feels they can’t do the exercise at first or feels it is not easy…go the extra step and before you know it, you will be able to do a task you could not do at first! For example, I could not wash my face at first using my broken wrist, but each day, I kept trying and doing as best I could until after a few tries, I was able to use the broken wrist normally!

I HIGHLY recommend the service to anyone in need of such! Thanks for all your help!

September 2018

I have never met a medical professional whom I have been in awe of more than Rhonda. She is both technically brilliant and intuitive, and in my case she is giving me my life back.

I have a disability that gives me trouble walking, chronic pain, weakness, and a spine torqued into a crustacean curve—requiring back (TLSO) and leg (AFO) braces for uprightness. Doctors, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists have said, learn to live with it, wear your braces, and be happy you’re not in a wheelchair. Yet.

Enter Rhonda.

With a combination of core strengthening exercises, ankle/foot flexibility exercises, breathing exercises, non weight-bearing exercises, side-lying gapping, supine elongation, dry needling, and pelvic centering—astonishingly the muscles around my spine are realigning, and I am standing straight and level—on my own. For the first time in years, I am no longer using my leg brace or, most times, even my back brace. Daily pain has lessened from 5-6 down to 3-to-0.

It’s not often in this life that you encounter brilliance and effectiveness together—creating a solution that actually works. Thank you Rhonda and your staff for this incredible gift.

March 2017

It’s a pleasure to share my success story after working with Rhonda and Stephanie at Moab Rehab!

I arrived with a 7 (on a 1 – 10 scale) level of pain in my lower hip. I was truly miserable. With a combination of their careful analysis of my body, followed up by their recommended stretches and realignment work—and by following their regime on my own, I experienced immediate relief! Within a week or two I was already down to a 2 pain wise (more like an ache than real pain.)

I am so grateful that in a town the size of Moab we have truly world-class physical therapy specialists to take care of us.

I can’t recommend Rhonda and her entire staff any more highly!

Aug 2018

After falling outside and landing on my left shoulder and elbow, I was really sore and had a hard time opening the car door, using the signals, and sleeping was uncomfortable. So, thanks to Rhonda and Chloe I am much better and can do my daily duties. Everyone [at Moab PTR] is highly skilled and professional, and I would recommend you to everyone. You are all so nice and the center has such a great atmosphere – friendly and relaxing. Thanks to Danielle for always changing my appointments while driving to Grand Junction. Thank You!

December 2017

I have waited a while to report on my “long range” success after having Rhonda’s treatments for my back, hips, and posture.

YES! It IS a success story! I have continued with the exercises, doing them on my own, as well as trying to maintain daily aerobics. I am grateful for the strength that I now feel, and I am able to stand comfortably for a long time. Being on my feet on a hard surface is no longer problematic, and I find the regimen of exercises has become very easy. I’m ready to “step it up” at the gym and to progress with added weights. I especially appreciate the sheet of “sitting exercises” that will help maintain my strength while traveling.

Thank you, Rhonda, for this series of “personally prescribed” exercises. I will continue them with optimism!

August 2017

After my rotator cuff surgery, I went to see Rhonda. At first I was unable to move my arm without a lot of pain, but after working with her a few times I was able to move it. As I kept going in I started working with Chloe and started stretching and movement exercises. After about a month I was moving my arm and getting more range of motion. The more I went the more range and strength I developed.  I went to see my surgeon in May he was surprised on how far I was ahead of schedule and able to go back to work a month early and that is all due to the wonderful ladies at Moab Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Thank you to the whole staff.

May 2017

I had dreaded having to go to physical therapy. I had imagined countless exercises that would be too difficult to remember and take too much time. However, the exercises were brief. Rhonda also provided pictures and there were only six exercises at the most. Incredibly, they really worked!
The treatments with each visit were very helpful and not painful. Finally, Rhonda and staff are very nice people. Attentive, gentle, and fun. The therapy dog is a very nice addition!

January 2017

I turned to Rhonda and her team at Moab Physical Therapy post-bunion surgery. I was impressed with their knowledge and the wide range of strengthening exercises they taught me. This was a bit tricky because I was non-weight bearing for many weeks. They also helped me regain range of motion and normal gait. They got me back on my feet and back to the things I love. Moab is lucky to have such talent.

Every time I hurt my back, I am never upset, because I know Miss Rhonda will rescue me from the pain. It’s wonderful to have the confidence to do crazy things – because I trust that I will be healed in Rhonda’s care. She is a god-send and I am grateful that she’s just a doctor’s referral away ☺

July 2014

I recently completed a month of physical therapy sessions with Rhonda Cowern. The previous three months found me dealing with a number of health ailments. Lower back pain and scar tissue from a hernia repair (20 years ago) was preventing me from doing chores around the house and activities.

Rhonda viewed my X-Rays and observed my walking and moving around the office, and body alignment. She immediately devised a plan for my therapy sessions. Gradually I was introduced various exercises to strengthen my core muscles.

I really liked the one-on-one 45 min sessions. In addition to being a good listener; her ease, mannerisms, feedback and encouragement were noteworthy. The beginning and ending surveys definitely showed improvement. I look forward to my planned workouts at home.

December 2015

Physical Therapy was a whiz with Rhonda. She knows her practice extremely well, and makes the recovery process super-fast. Nothing but great things to say. Shoulder surgery (Rotator Cuff)-on October 6/2014 and fully back at it on January 01/2015, with the exception of regaining muscle strength in some ranges of motion. Totally would use Moab PT and Rehabilitation again. Thanks Rhonda and staff for keeping my schedule straight.

January 2015

Rhonda, thank you so much for all your help with my shoulder. It was almost a year ago that I came to see you with shoulder pain, and you stepped me through a series of exercises to keep my range of motion good despite the pain.

When an MRI revealed I had an impingement, you gave me a small set of maintenance exercises to do until I could have surgery (several months later). After the surgery, again you expertly led me through a regiment of exercises to gradually increase my range of motion, and later on, strength. In addition, you massaged and worked my shoulder to loosen everything up so it moved better.

I’ve heard a saying if the physical therapist doesn’t make you cry with his/her manipulations, he/she is not doing the job correctly. That is hogwash in my opinion. You were always gentle and careful with me, with the theory that too much pain means no gain. My improvement has been gradual and smooth, except for one hiccup when I stupidly did too much too soon. When I did that, every movement was excruciating for about a week, but your student trainee, Mike, who had also had shoulder surgery not too long ago, patiently eased me through that difficult and frustrating time, and soon I was going strong again.

My shoulder is much, much better than it was a year ago, and Dr. Weeks is happy. I have you and your team to thank! If I ever have a need for physical therapy again, you can be sure I will be in touch!

It amazes me how far I’ve come. Every visit adds more range of motion. The exercises really help keep my wrist and hand flexible. I’m almost there!!! Thanks so much.

September 2015

About a year ago, I started to notice pain in my shoulders. Doctor basically said it was arthritis and to keep working and exercising as normal. I didn’t have much trouble until this last August/September. My left shoulder started giving me quite a bit of pain plus low strength in certain range of motion. Then every once in a while, while lifting or pulling an object, it felt like my left shoulder dislocated, with a substantial amount of pain. After such episodes, I could barely lift my arm for a while.

There were times just routine movements like, putting on a shirt or pulling up a window, caused pain and felt like there was torn cartilage. The pain became more chronic and started affecting my sleep. I became alarmed enough that I scheduled a doctor’s appointment. She had my shoulders X-rayed and ultimately felt that physical therapy would be beneficial. My doctor Katherine Williams, referred me to Rhonda Cowern at Moab Physical Therapy.

I was skeptical at first; however, Rhonda began seeing me twice a week. She customized a therapy regime to be used at her office and at home. She also worked on my shoulder during my visits and basically discharged after 10 visits. Rhonda is very professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. I appreciate everything she has done.

November 2014

I have so much enjoyed my therapy with Rhonda. She is so friendly and understanding—working on everyone with custom planned exercises on what skill is lacking. I have learned better posture and balance, and learned to use a cane properly. My shoulder is better than when I began exercises a few weeks ago. I would not hesitate to recommend Rhonda for someone needing therapy.

December 2014

I had a tight knotted discomfort in my hip for over five years that prevented me from running farther than a few miles. After therapy the knot went away. I was relieved that I didn’t need surgery and that I could continue jogging. A kind, open staff made communication easy. Thank you!

September 2015

After having hip replacement a year ago, I still had pain between 7-9 out of 10 all of the time. It was recommended to me to go to Rhonda at Moab Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation for physical therapy in the pool. It has been very successful. After therapy two times a week, my pain has subsided and I have more strength in my leg.

I came to see Rhonda for a hip flexor problem. I could not get out of my car without feeling a lot of pain in my groin area. I felt like I was a very old woman. I love to hike and I always was in pain. Well now after 11 visits I’m back to be the gazelle of the Red Rock. Thank you Rhonda, your magic fingers made me young again.

October 2014

Born with problems in my right leg which periodically disabled me during my life, but while permitted an active life the rest of the time, the problems came back to haunt me last winter. I had too much pain to even walk my usual daily hour. Referred to Dr. Rhonda by my MD. We worked together for 9 weeks. At the end of this focused, varied and fun—yes, fun—relationship, I walk my daily hour pain-free. Also, I gained better understanding as to what my body needs to maintain long-term health. The latter is of incredible value. Thank you, Dr. Rhonda.
